Biking Vikings 2014 – A Circuitous Route Home?…..1st/ 2nd November
2nd star to the right and straight on to the Welby Arms….. The Biking Vikings ride again!!
The format is similar to previous years with a two day ride of approximately 90 miles raising money for the BBC Children in Need appeal.
This year’s route will start at the Grand Prix circuit at Silverstone, just off the A43. For the first day we’ll be riding approximately 47 miles, along bridle paths picking up the Grand Union canal which will take us to Northampton. There we’ll pick up the old railway, go around Pittsford Water and then back roads to Corby for our overnight stop.
The second day is around 42 miles and will take back roads to go around Rutland Water before picking up some of the Viking Way via local roads and bridle paths, and then home for the Viking Stew!!
This year the route is approximately 55% off road with the majority is on surfaced towpaths or cycle trails – most is suitable for hybrid bikes. Though some sections are on unsurfaced bridle paths and may be muddy!! We’d recommend a mountain bike.
Anyone who wishes to ride will need to sign up ASAP on the list at the Welby Arms as spaces are limited. Sponsorship forms and timetable details will be available from behind the bar shortly. An online Sponsorship form is available at our mydonate page.
This is a charity ride for BBC Children in Need – If you don’t feel able to raise sponsorship please think about making a suitable donation to the charity.
As in previous years we’re also in need of some support to provide transport for the riders to the start of the ride.
If you’d like to ride or can help with transport please put your name down on the lists below.
Thanks for your support – any questions please let us know.
F.Pete and Jules.
