The WI had a lovely afternoon in June when we visited Jane Barnes’ dairy farm, just outside Melton Mowbray. We had a tour of this very productive farm which provides milk to the Long Clawson dairy for the making of its famous Stilton cheese. Jane treated us to afternoon tea and cakes and we were able to watch the milking and also sampled some of the wonderful Stilton.
Our July speaker was Janet Peto on Hedgehog Welfare. She gave us a very informative talk on how to protect the Hedgehogs in our gardens and what to do if we disturb a nest or find injured Hedgehogs. Janet is often up most of the night feeding tiny baby Hedgehogs (known as “Hoglets”) that have been taken to her.
The Allington Morris 25th celebrations went with a swing (or, rather, with a hop, skip and a jump!) and the WI “Galloping Grannies” acquitted themselves admirably in the competition. Sadly, we did not regain the title, but consoled ourselves with the fact that the Sedgebrook Ladies were very worthy winners.
“Chocolate Indulgence Evening” – the WI is holding this extravaganza at 7.30 pm on 30th October in the Village Hall. A representative from Downtown will be giving us a talk on the history of Thorntons Chocolate. There will be chocolate fountains in operation and a demonstration on chocolate Christmas decorations. Come and join us for what promises to be a fun evening.
