Lincolnshire’s Best Kept Village competition celebrates its 50th anniversary this year. To commemorate the event Community Lincs, the organisers, are co-ordinating an Anniversary Heritage Project. As part of that project they are looking for research volunteers to work within the top 10 communities, undertaking interviews and collate information about the villages which can be used to help to produce a booklet, touring display and dedicated website. The top 10 communities are: Coleby, Harlaxton, Holbeach, Horncastle, Mareham Le Fen, Nettleham, Ropsley, Scopwick, Tealby and Timberland. Unfortunately Allington, a past winner, is not on this list but it doesn’t really matter. If you have an interest in local history and have some time to spare Community Lincs would love to hear from you. They will provide relevant training and support for all volunteers as well as a real opportunity to get involved with local communities.
As well as appealing for keen and willing volunteers they are also looking for local contacts within the top 10 communities who may be able to provide local history information, specifically related to the Best Kept Village Competition. If you would like to volunteer, or become a local contact, or just pass on some information you think we might find useful, please contact Rachael or Amy on 01529 302466
