Lincolnshire

The following has been submitted by Parish Councillor Mike Mould.

I can’t believe its autumn already; time seems to have flown since we launched the Village Cross fund-raising appeal. I expect from your point of view, it’s all gone a bit quiet., So it’s time to bring you up to date.

Funding

First the funding. We currently have £14422.19 in the bank, it’s a brilliant result all from our own efforts, given the size of our village, it’s heartening to know how generous you have all been. But we still have a challenge to meet the target of at least £20,000. So, can we please ask for one big push to bump up the fund.

Estimates

The Parish Council is obliged to gain at least three estimates for any major spend. So, we have requested quotes from three companies. All have visited the village to assess what needs to be done, these quotes are in hand. The council must determine decide which quote offers the best value and quality. Provided that Historic England accept our choice of contractor we can go ahead and make specific plans for the work to start.

Permissions

The Village cross is a listed monument which has in a variety of forms stood on the same site since the 13th century, as such any work carried out must first be approved by the local planning authority, and Historic England. Both of which have been a bit problematical. There has been a meeting with SKDC who seem to have been happy about what we want to do, and we await written consent. Having approached Historic England, we await a response.

Conclusion

Let me assure you the Parish Council is totally committed to getting the Cross renovated. We continue to need your support to fund the project. As you can see from the figures above, we are still short of our £20.000 target. Realistically as winter approaches it is unlikely that any substantial work will commence untill the threat of frost is over, probably March or April 2022. As plans move forward, we will publish further updates.
