Tea Loaf

A Recipe From Allington W.I.

1 Cup of caster sugar
1 Cup of sultanas
1 Cup of milk
4 oz Butter
8oz Self raining flour
1/4teasp Cream of tartar
1 egg – beaten


  • Place the sugar, sultanas, milk and butter into a pan and bring to the boil
  • Simmer for a few minutes then remove from heat and cool
  • Stir beaten egg into the cooled mixture, then the flour and cream of tartar. The mixture will be soft
  • Bake in a moderate oven, gas 4, 350˚F or electric 180 ˚C or 160˚C fan for about 1 hour
