Allington Playing Field Fund Raisers are planning a new event for the Summer. Called On The Green it will take place on and around Allington’s Village Green on 8/9/10 July. The focus will be on live music, food and drink in the courtyard at the The Welby throughout the weekend and a car show on The Green itself on the Sunday. A marquee with stage area will be erected within the courtyard.

Some bands have already been booked for the Friday and Saturday nights. More are required on a no/low fee basis. The pub will be providing a BBQ and the fund raisers will be running a real ale bar with a wide range of local beers.

For the car show there will be a road closure in place, diverting traffic around the Green via Side Street and Bottom Street. Residents will still have access and egress to and from their properties. A through route will also be retained for emergency vehicles. The playing field will be made available for public car parking.

Although space will be tight it is hoped that other community groups can become involved with activities around the car show. The W.I. have already expressed an interest in serving cream teas.

Proceeds from the event will go towards The playing field and there will also be charitable donations. The beneficiaries will be announced shortly. Other village organisations that want to get involved will be able to raise money for their own purposes.

Enquiries about the weekend, including opportunities for bands, entering the car show or doing something on the Green will be dealt with by the fund raisers – email admin@allingtononline.co.uk. Different people will be dealing with different aspects of the event and your enquiry will be forwarded to the appropriate person.

More information will be released in due course.
