Free Morris Course in Allington

Want to help keep a local tradition alive? Need to improve your fitness? Want to get more involved in your community? Ever thought about giving Morris Dancing a go? READ ON!

Allington Morris is a small, enthusiastic village side, still dancing after more than 30 years. We practise on Thursday nights 8.00-9.30 in Allington Village Hall from September to the end of April and then our dancing season starts traditionally on May 1st outside the Welby Arms in the village. Pre-Covid, we enjoyed dancing out with other sides over the summer, at festivals, local events and pub evenings around the area. And of course, this year we will be dancing at the local celebrations for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee in June – you could be one of our number!

We are a mixed side, dancing in the Cotswold tradition and over the years we have attracted both dancers and musicians not only from the village but from a wider area too. As with all these things, members move on or retire, so new dancers and musicians are always welcome, with or without experience.

With this in mind we are offering a FREE 4 week course in Cotswold Morris Dancing and Music – an initial taster session on Thursday 10th February and then for the next 3 weeks until Thursday 3rd March. The course will run from 8pm-9pm at Allington village hall and you will get a chance to watch and take part in a variety of dances as well delving in to some of the mysteries of Morris! No special kit needed, just a pair of trainers or comfortable shoes and most essential, a sense of humour!

Don’t worry if you are new to dancing, your enthusiasm will make up for any initial lack of fitness or co-ordination. In fact the majority of our existing dancers had no experience before joining the side. It’s a great way to keep fit and we usually round off the night with a well-earned drink at the Welby Arms.

If you would like to come along and play or give dancing a go, contact Mary McKinlay, Secretary, Allington Morris or get in touch through Allington online

Why don’t you put on your trainers or dig out your instruments? Come along and give us a try or just come along to watch and have a chat.

Open evenings 8.00-9.00 February 10th, 17th, 24th and March 3rd
