Conservation areas were introduced into the UK in 1967 and are used to identify places considered worthy of preservation or enhancement because of their special architectural or historic interest. A conservation area was designated in Allington in 1990. SKDC is now undertaking a review of all the conservation areas in the district and has published some consultation proposals to extend the core area in the village that is covered by the Allington document.
