Best Kept Village – Best In Lincolnshire
It has just been announced that Allington has won the past winners’ section of the Lincolnshire best kept village competition. This is great news but it is perhaps not immediately apparent what an honour this is. The competition is split into four classes depending on population size. Allington has won its class on two previous occasions. Villages that win their class cannot re-enter it for a period of three years. Instead they have to compete against the other class winners during that three year period. It’s a bit like the Champions League – in essence a fifth class that comprises the best villages from each class over the past three years. And it is this class – the best of the best – in which Allington has triumphed. Whilst in the past Allington has been a winner in its population group it can now really claim to be Lincolnshire’s best kept village.
