The Biking Vikings Have Ridden Again

biking-vikings-title-RGBThis year 24 riders (including 3 Viking virgins) set out from Dunford Bridge near Holmfirth on Saturday 2nd November. The route was mainly off road taking the riders along the Trans-Pennine Trail through Sheffield, Staveley and onto Chesterfield for the overnight stop. Riding into the wind and rain it was a long 40 miles with barely time to stop for a pint at lunch.

After a good meal and some dubious ale on our night in Chesterfield the second day was a further 50 miles up the “incline” out of Chesterfield and around Mansfield via bridle paths and then through Sherwood Pines to bring us home via Southwell and Newark. The light was just fading as the riders arrived home led by Roger Wyles to the usual great welcome home from the village and a nice clear pint at the Welby!!

We had great support again this year and we’ve raised over £5000 plus gift aid.

A big thank you from all the riders to those that supported and sponsored the ride, especially Foston Pete for his help with the route (he did the hill sections), Heather, Jay and Di on back up, Geoff Horsfall, Mel Cant, Martin for all his help, Ray at the shop and finally Matt and all at the Welby Arms for the Viking Stew when we all got home!
