Formed two years ago, SYNTAX is essentially a literary group but is somewhat different to book clubs, drama groups or discussion forums. It’s purpose is to bring together lovers of literature in all its forms and share with others a poem, an extract from a book or a play and read it to the group.
We meet on the third Wednesday of every month in the Village Hall and there is no membership fee or any obligation to read – many come just to listen and perhaps be reminded of favourite literature from their schooldays. Occasionally we enjoy the company of a guest speaker (Eric Chappell of ‘Rising Damp’ fame was a recent visitor), and a trip to the theatre is also a regular outing for the group. Everything is fluid and very informal – simply turn up and pay £2.00 to pay for the hire of the hall, enjoy the readings, the company, often some humour (and a nice cup of tea!)
