Autumn Comedy At The Village Hall
Allington playing field fundraisers are once more promoting professional comedy at Allington Village Hall. We have three great acts who are currently on tour around the UK. They include Lyn Ruth Miller who is the oldest performing stand up female comedian on both sides of the Atlantic.
Brian and Krysstal are a modern day vaudeville musical comedy double act and Andrew Watts is an award winning comedian who has written and performed four full length Edinburgh shows.
The show will take place on Saturday 22 October. Tickets go on sale on 16th September and will be available from the shop, the pub and online.
Some of the material will contain adult themes and will be unsuitable for children.
The Line Up
Andrew Watts has a distinctive style and very original material. His posh boy humour is intelligent without distancing himself from the audience. Lawyer turned comedian, Andrew is extremely likeable and invariably wins a crowd over as he canters, like an apologetic tsunami, through challenging subjects.
Previously a solicitor in London, he is now a full-time comedian and has written and performed four full-length Edinburgh shows, I Wish I Could Be Like Andrew Watts, Born To Be Mild, Feminism for Chaps and. most recently, How To Build A Chap. All of them received five- or four-star reviews.
Winner – Reading Comedy Festival New Act of The Year
Runner-Up to TV’s Jack Whitehall – Amused Moose Laugh-Off
Finalist – So You Think You’re Funny, Laughing Horse New Act of the Year + English Comedian of the Year Competition
“His distinctive style stands out – a winning mixture of pomposity, insecurity and emotional incompetence, while the fury-inducing importance he places on the trivial makes for a winning comic stance.” – Chortle.co.uk
“One of my favourite up-and-coming comedians, who looks and acts like he’s in middle management and whose distaste for everything laddish and fondness for cricket analogies cloaks some darker writing… There’s intelligent wit, honesty and more interesting and provocative thoughts in his show than many comics manage in a decade.” – The Scotsman
“Lovers of stand-up laced with a cerebral cutting-edge should, without further prevarication, flock to his show.” – ThreeWeeks ****
Brian and Krysstal
Since meeting at The Edinburgh Festival in 2000 Brian & Krysstal have entertained and delighted all kinds of audiences at comedy clubs, cabaret nights, festivals, corporate and private functions in locations far and wide.
Regular fixtures at The Edinburgh Festival for eight years, the duo have worked all over the UK as well as Germany, South Africa, Gozo, Spain, Denmark, Ireland, Australia and of course… Peckham.
Brian is infamously grumpy and deadpan, while his assistant Krysstal is glamorous but ditzy. The combination is unique and very funny. Their timing is exquisite, their humour dry and sometimes bawdy.
Brian & Krysstal’s first CD “Silly Songs” was recorded in 2001 and their long awaited second album “Spudcast” is now also available online.
Wherever they go their baggage goes with them, including several instruments (not always musical in their hands). Individually they have many years of experience in the entertainment industry, Brian as a musician and Krysstal as an actress in Australia.
Their unconventional vaudeville-style act is punctuated by silly songs, the odd bit of Spanish dancing LOADS of jokes and LOADS of belly laughs.
Lynn Ruth Miller
Lynn Ruth Miller – Currently the oldest performing stand up female comedian on both sides of the Atlantic
Dubbed the new Joan Rivers of Fringe Comedy at The Edinburgh International Fringe.
She is a regular at the San Francisco Punchline, The Stand in Scotland and The International in Dublin and is now chomping at the bit ready now to do her storytelling, cabaret and stand-up comedy throughout the world to prove that her ageing has been amazing.
At 82, Lynn Ruth Miller is still going strong.
She started her comedy career at 71. She made it to Las Vegas in America’s Got Talent, 2008, won People’s Choice in the 2009 Branson Comedy Festival, the finals in Bill Word’s Funniest Female Contest 2009 and semi-finals in the SF International Comedy Competition, the top 100 in Britain’s Got Talent and won both nights of the Texas Burlesque Festival without taking off anything that matters.
She was the 2013 TO&ST winner for GRANNY’S GONE WILD: best cabaret Edinburgh Fringe. That show was then performed at the Soho Theatre in London in March 2014. In August, she performed her fourth solo show NOT DEAD YET a compilation of stories and songs about her life, directed by Sarah Louise Young with songs written by Young and Michael Roulston to 4 and 5 star reviews.
Your Compere – James Dowdeswell
In addition to having three great acts our compere for the evening – James Dowdeswell – is a professional actor and comedian. James is a headline act both in the UK and abroad. His TV appearances include Extras and Russell Howard’s Good News.
