Consultation Underway

Conservation areas were introduced into the UK in 1967 and are used to identify places considered worthy of preservation or enhancement because of their special architectural or historic interest. A conservation area was designated in Allington in 1990. SKDC is now undertaking a review of all the conservation areas in the district and has published some consultation proposals to extend the core area in the village that is covered by the Allington document.

Lark in the Park 6 July 2013 Tickets Now On Sale

Tickets are now on sale for Lark in the Park 2013 featuring Queen tribute Mercury at Allington Playing Field on 6th July.

Mercury are one of the UK’s most respected Queen tribute bands. Also on the bill is The Aesthetic, a versatile covers band playing pop classics and modern hits.

Mercury provide a dynamic stage show that faithfully recreates the charismatic appeal of rock’s most flamboyant front man. With superbly crafted harmonies and intricate guitar work they present an accurate representation of the distinctive Queen experience.

A party atmosphere prevails throughout the evening and there will be music from a disco in addition to the live entertainment. If you would like a seat you are welcome to bring your own chair.

Allington W.I. March Meeting

The March meeting saw the election of a new Committee for the coming year. We have a varied programme of events, which started with an extremely enjoyable visit to Grantham Guildhall to see Cats. The Star Academy were wonderful and it was agreed by all that the production was at least as good as, if not better than, anything to be seen in the West End!

Our President, Jean Taylor, gave a very full account of the Spring Council meeting, which is held annually in Spalding and which is open to all the WIs in South Lincolnshire.

Mrs Rampley was the very entertaining Speaker for April. She brought along her wonderful collection of ladies’ corsetry dating from Victorian times. There were hoots of laughter at the design of the various contraptions that ladies had to harness themselves into at the start of the day and huge relief that times have changed (certainly for the better as far as ladies underwear is concerned). Memories came flooding back and it was agreed by everyone that the dreaded “Liberty Bodice” was anything but liberating!!

Syntax May 15th

By way of a change ‘Syntax’ has planned a different evening on May 15th. If you once knew and loved a particular poem but can’t remember much of it we will do all the research to find it then read it aloud in the village hall. Around the village are a few little boxes in which to put your requests – even if you can recall only a line or two, the author or what it was roughly all about. Put what you can remember of it on a piece of paper, drop it in the box then come to the hall on May 15th. Hear your poem, meet some friends and enjoy a ‘different evening’. (You’ll get a ‘cuppa’ and a ‘bickie’ as well!)

I know her mum was called Sandy and her siblings were Charlotte and Matthew.It is over 20 years since we left school so I don’t know whether her parents still live in the village? Easter Egg Hunt – Cold and Busy

Easter 2013 appears to have been the coldest on record. However, it clearly takes more than a cold snap to keep Allington’s youngsters away from their Easter Eggs. The egg hunt at the playing field on bank Holiday Monday saw a good turnout of parents and young people alike. Although the eggs had been carefully secreted away around various parts of the playing field they were soon discovered. Although this isn’t a fund raising event a raffle and much generosity was sufficient to cover all costs.

Annual Parish Meeting

Allington’s Annual Parish meeting will take place on Wednesday April 10th at 7.30pm in the village hall. It’s an opportunity for everyone to contribute to village activities and to express their opinions. Wine and juice will be available. This year’s important item is the presentation of the Village Plan. You are needed to voice your thoughts and hopes for the future of Allington.

Play Survey – Results

The Playing Field Committee recently conducted an online survey about play facilities in Allington. This was aimed directly at young people. The results are now available and can be downloaded from the link at the foot of this article. Not surprisingly the results show an overwhelming desire for new and better facilities. This information will form part of the evidence used to support a bid to the Big Lottery for funds to help improve Allington’s play equipment. This bid will be to the Reaching Communities fund which is the only available source of major funding at present. We will also be looking at some extra top up funding from our local authorities.

The Reaching Communities Fund is substantially oversubscribed and only 1 in 20 applications is successful. Most of these are from places suffering from significant deprivation in one form or another. Our evidence is therefore crucial.

If anyone has any further comments to make on the need for play equipment please use the reply form below. Observations, comments and anecdotal evidence are all useful and may be able to help our funding application.

In addition to the results of the survey we also have the results of some work carried out by Helen Taylor who worked with children at Allington with Sedgebrook School to produce drawings of what they would like to see at the playing field. Helen’s analysis of the drawings is also available to download.

A final piece of work that may be useful is the results of the original survey that was undertaken to inform the development of the community plan. Although this is getting a bit old in lottery terms, it may be helpful.

Easter Egg Hunt Allington Playing Field Easter Monday

Allington’s annual Easter Egg Hunt will take place at the playing field on Easter Monday at 11.00AM. Entry is free. Everyone is welcome and there will be plenty of eggs.

Broadband – It’s Superfast Allington

Lincolnshire County Council has announced its plans for the roll out of superfast broadband. After a year of campaigns and consultation it has been revealed that BT has been awarded a contract to deliver the new services. The County broadband plan aims to deliver superfast broadband to 90% of the county’s residents by sometime in 2015. The good news is that Allington will be part of those plans. It’s a little bit disappointing to find that the work in our area is not scheduled until January/March 2016. At the moment it is also unclear who won’t be getting the new speeds.

The announcement and all available information can be found at onlincolnshire.org. You can use a tool called “my area” to undertake a postcode search. This only goes as far as the NG322E postcode. The final letter to give truly local information doesn’t work. Hopefully it will in the future. Right now it tells us this based on a search for NG322EE.

What’s planned for my area?

Onlincolnshire will be bringing superfast broadband to your area.

What speed will I get?

Based on County Council projections, the 1743 premises in NG32 2E should receive the following speeds:
- 22% of Premises can get Basic Broadband.
- 78% of Premises can get Superfast Broadband.

More detail will be available for your postcode (NG32 2EE) once work starts. Please note that due to the complexity of bringing superfast broadband to Lincolnshire, all details are subject to change.

When will Superfast Broadband be available for my area?

Your area is in Phase 8, so improved broadband should be available between January 2016 andMarch 2016

Of most concern will be the fact that 22% of residents will still be getting basic broadband although what we put up with now is probably worse than basic. Nonetheless there is hope. The County broadband plan also states that those residents not in the initial tranche of superfast delivery will receive the service by 2017. It will be interesting to see if plans emerge to make good on this promise.
